J D Andrews

J.D. Andrews was born in rural Burt, Iowa at his parents' house. He graduated from Burt High School. He attended Simpson College and Mankato State majoring in Industrial Arts. He married Mary Broesder in 1967. They have two children and five grandsons. His family enjoyed camping and water skiing. J.D. worked for Arco for a few years. He was the assistant manager at the Burt Elevator for thirty years and was the location manager at Stateline Coop's South Burt location for four years. J.D. was in the National Guard and served on the Burt City Council.

Leonard Stenzel

Leonard Stenzel was born one half mile west of Titonka. He attended school in Titonka until his family moved to Burt when he was a freshman. He graduated from Burt High School. He has been married to Marlene (Dremmel) for fifty-one years. They have two children and five grandchildren. Leonard served in Korean War. He farmed for about fourteen years. After farming he worked at the Burt Savings Bank for nine years and for fifteen years at Titonka Savings Bank. He still serves on the Titonka Savings Bank Board of Directors.

Mabeline Lovstad

Mabeline Lovstad was born south of Algona. Her family moved to Burt in the mid 1930's. She graduated from Burt High School and then attended the State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught at the Portland Township School for four years. She had to quit when she got married. She married Raymond Lovstad in 1943. Mabeline has two children, 2 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She did some substitute teaching during World War II. She later went back to college to earn her teaching degree and taught for another thirty-one years in area schools. Mabeline taught 3 generations of two families. She likes to keep busy and does a lot of volunteering through the Burt Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star and Burt Federated Club. She still attends basketball and football games and enjoys watching the children of her former students participating in the sports.

Vern Koestler

Vern Koestler was born in Algona, Iowa. Lived on the family farm until he graduated from Burt High School. Attended Northwest Radio & TV electronic technician program in Minneapolis. Vern is married to Joan (Krull). Has two daughters and four grandchildren. Worked in the Chicago area for years and was a manager of the computer departments of a major newspaper and moving company before becoming a general contractor. He returned to Burt in 1998 and retired in 2003. Is currently working part time at a lumber yard.

Virginia Becker

Virginia (McWhorter) Becker was born in the Algona Hospital. She has lived all of her 82 years on the same road in rural Kossuth County. Virginia attended country school through the 8th grade at Portland District #8. The school building is now on her acreage. She is a 1948 Burt High School graduate. Following high school Virginia attended nurses training and worked as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. She came home and married the neighbor boy, Frank H. Becker, and began raising children, cleaning and cooking. Virginia has five children, twenty-one grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
